Kids care Smart watches
Ashopping mall crowded with people intensely absorbed in Christmas shopping.
A caretaker for two young children, about 4 and 6 years old, tries to deal with their energies to visit the interior of each store where showcase or products call kid’s attention.
Suddenly, the young lady in charge turns around and one of the kids is gone. Right after, she begins to look for him. The minutes ticked by, the anguish grows and she can find him. She called security but fortunately, when the child appears he was having fun with toys. On most occasions, the end of these stories is positive but sometimes not.
In the Dominican Republic, according to data from the National Statistics Office (NSO), minors aged 0-14 represent 30% of the population. Around four million parents, according to studies of the Central Bank, work and have to cede the care of their children to third parties.
These figures, which demonstrate the need to monitor the activities of the youngest ones, motivated the Dominican company AGL, specialized in the development of technology, to launch an app and an intelligent watch “smartwatch” in the country to track children.
Baptized as KidFinder, allows parents to know the exact location of their children through the smartwatch. The application (available for iOS and Android) identifies in real time using GPS, GSM and WIFI, the exact place where the child is and has a history of motion that can replay the positions in the map.
Having this app, parents choose three trusted contacts with whom their child can communicate, monitor their activities, or call in case of emergency. In addition, the app can set up different “safe zones” in such a way that you receive an alert if the child enters or leaves these delimited areas and can allow a discreet call to supervise child environment, either when the kid is at school or with their caretakers.
The smartwatch, designed for children between 3 and 10 years, is a two-way GPS that can locate the device in real time and make calls to three numbers that have previously been set up. It includes an option for emergency situations that, besides making contact with the predefined person or entity, sends an email alert to the people you want. The application immediately sends an alert when the child leaves the safe area that covers at least a range of 100 meters. The same happens when you are not wearing the smartwatch or the battery is discharged. More security, it would be impossible.
The smartwatch has a display where you can see the day, date and time, and an ergonomic design with attractive colors. It is available in two models, one for children under 4 years old, including basic functionalities, i.e. the watch as such and two buttons to call the parents, send text messages and emergency alert; and the other one slightly larger for children up to 10 years old that, in addition to the above functions, has a color touch screen for a better communication with parents and also a voice messaging.
