The power of mind in our decisions

The power of mind in our decisions

We all have heard in some occasion that a positive attitude can overcome a disease more quickly or how does daily stress and worries reduce our immune response. I ask myself however, how has been demonstrated the relationship between a positive mental attitude and disease. I mean, how does affect mind on the body?

Mental attitude is determinant to confront any external situation. Social Sciences have that very clear. In Psychology, the locus of control term is used to explain how people interpret what happens to them in their daily work, but not the correlation between behavior and event, only the subjective perception of the expectations of an individual on a specific event.

Anyone can perceive certain successes or failures as a result of internal factors, such as personal effort, worth, the own skills or intelligence. And external factors, such as high difficulty of the task, the randomness, the action of others, etc. This sensation is related to the degree of control that is perceived on the events.

Those with external locus of control perceive their results as a consequence of certain circumstances over which they have no power. This would talk about family situations, decisions of third parties in which we are involved. Instead people with internal locus of control, interpret their situation based on the decisions they make.

It is true that luck can play an important role in the personal life of each one, but each behavior is the result of a certain belief. Those who believe that chance is the main cause of the disease (external control of locus) have worse habits. In other words, why is it worth to try if you are at the mercy of fate?

We usually are not aware of our beliefs; the real revolution begins in the mind, as Bruce Lee said. "If you put limitations on what you do, in the physical field or any other, it will spread to your work and your life. There are no limits, just steps to overcome". However, at the Western world, it is normal that we consider the mind separate from the rest of the body. This asseveration is only a dissociation that has been sustained and reproduced for centuries in various fields of thought, although it is not true, because a link exist between both.
