The Gran Caribbean Canyon, Dominican Republic treasures a vast variety of climates zones, with its particular geographic characteristics encourage a large and diverse habitat that accommodate all kinds of flora, fauna and wildlife.
In the south, there is a combination of destinations, time and dreams. A dream with white clouds flying and forming nicely shape cotton candy in the sky, dancing to the rhythm of the rolling waves and a turquoise horizon. This fantastic show catches the attention of many curious who stayed at awe. It is a blessing. The providence of Pedernales has landscapes, coasts and mountains that leave a trace of itself to highlight, erect and exalt the greatness of the infinity. The spinous vegetation such as the “Guasábara” and other cactus species that grow locally in the deserted or semideserted areas cover solely the coast road, while other plants such as “Prolijos” grow deep into the land to form forests and mounts. The Oviedo Lagoon is the water reserve of Pedernales. It is located in the Jaragua National Park and considered one of the protected areas in the Caribbean. Mangroves and an extent variety of fauna proliferate in its deep salty waters. Cabo Rojo is a natural path towards Bahía de las Águilas. Considered one of the best beaches in the world. It brings out some ochres and copper brown colors around 8km southwest coast. It is home for the most guarded coral reef in the Caribbean. Its name comes from the bauxite mineral which is easy to find in the surrounding areas. The mining activity for this mineral took place for many years. It is now currently closed for general public.
