It is possible that the mastery of the ocean, the stories of sailors and overseas myths had cradle her with rhythms of Debussy, Fauré & Saint-Saëns, Granados or Falla at the same way the popular folklore of Caribe did it.
his could be a presage that Stephany Ortega would play a main role in the Dominican music scenario and then she will appear as the leading lyric singer of the country with most international reach. If it was dreams, speculations or just illusions, the real thing is that Stephany left behind her childhood at the north cost of the island to start her piano studies at the academy “Estudio Diná” in Santo Domingo, at the age of ten years old. “As a child, with my brothers, we were used to sang the chorus while my parents perform songs and played the guitar. So, it was something natural for me to approach to the music in a formal way”, she said. She studied a Master in Music at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo where five years after she got graduated magna cum laude. She affirms that this achievement “costed her sweat and tears” but at the same time it gave her the courage and push her to apply for a scholarship to study composition at the Luxemburg Ministry of Culture, which let her re-connect with her studies of piano. “They not only gave me the scholarship, they also made an exception and renovated it for a second year because of my good performance, a fact that was such a motivator for me.”
